I loved the classical 1933 movie about the big ape. In fact, I am a big fan of most monster movies. Even the campy ones (King Nong vs Godzilla comes to mind, as does King Kong Lives) But this one missed the mark. Although a very good movie in it's own right. It was just to long and drawn out.
I know Peter Jackson has a love for details. It's one of the reason his fans loved his Lord of the Rings triolgy. His close attention to details and following the books so closely. But the thing that made LotR such a big success. Dragged down King Kong.
Peter spent so much time in the movie to devolpe the characters. that it weighted down the movie to a slow crawl that by the time Kong was introduced, instead of excitment. you end up saying 'Finally' but even after that point. movie still tends to drag.
The main characters in the movie where great. Which suprised me really. Jack Black and Naomi Watts where excellent. Jack so nailed the desprint director that not only wanted to bring back Kong, He had to. Naomi was so convincing as Kong's love interest. you half expect her to kiss him on more then one occassion. I wasn't to impressed with Adrien Brody performance. It was kinda dry and lifeless
Don't get me wrong. It's a great movie. and well worth the price. But it pales in compairson to the 33 classic
