MegaMek is an Open Source, turn-based strategy computer game. The game rules are directly based on BattleTech board game rules (the Classic BattleTech line), and a lot of the game content is based on Classic BattleTech - apart from some trademarked terms having been changed (BattleMechs are called "Meks", for example). While based on the CBT rules, the game has no affiliation of any kind with FanPro or WizKids.
The game is written entirely in Java, using little but the standard Java v1.1 libraries. This means that most Windows users can run the game without having to download the most recent Java Platform(tm) from Sun. Graphics are based on AWT so the game should be playable on very low-end machines too. The game is distributed with its source, under the GPL license.
Currently, MegaMek supports all level 1 rules, most level 2 rules, and a number of level 3 and house rules. There is also a simple genetic-algorithm-driven bot that can be played against; however, it is not yet very intelligent. Plans for the near future focus on completion of the core rules, while long-term goals include integration of AeroTech and campaign rules, enhanced AI and an optional 3D interface. The game currently supports multiplayer via TCP/IP, though play-by-e-mail is possible through exchange of saved games.
Hosted on SourceForge.net, MegaMek is expanding and improving due to the efforts of volunteer programmers from the BattleTech community. A small core team of dedicated programmers is supported by an enormous group of one-time or occasional contributors, resulting in an impressive development pace for a free project.

Warning, I am in no way able to support this program. I can answer a few simple question. But for real tech support, you have to go to the MegaMek site
