www.burningsea.com/Check this game out. it looks pretty cool. They seem focused on making a simulation, where RPG skills come into play with accuracy and perhaps reaction time with sails and rigging, and not increased damage. A newbie's 12-pound cannon will do as much damage as the most experienced player's 12-pounder, but the latter player will just have better gunners. They've consolidated some of the ship classes of this age of sail, made some broad brushstrokes and distinctions when there aren't really any (as the sail fans are saying) but it looks like it's an attempt at making it playable rather than a disrespect for the source. It really does look neat, and its PvP system is dynamic and player controlled. Plus you can be a pirate. A pirate! No ships of the line for the Pirate (unless you can capture one) and it's supposed to be a really, really tough existence, but that sounds like so much fun. I intend to be a Privateer (pirate merc hired by one nation to piss off another navy) myself, though it isn't an actual class (that I know of). There'll be trading, but I'm unsure about crafting and such.
